Miley Cyrus may have deleted her Twitter account, which she claims had nearly 2 million followers. But she quickly returned to cyber-space with a YouTube video in which she explains in a rap her reason for stopping her constant Tweets.
In the YouTube video, which has been viewed more than 3 million times, Cyrus denies she stopped Tweeting because her friend told her to; several media outlets claimed the pop star stopped using the micro-blogging service at the request of her recent co-star and rumored love interest Liam Hemsworth.
The teen superstar admits she was obsessed and may have some withdrawals but says it's time to keep her private life private. "Everything that I type and everything that I do, all those lame gossip types take it and they make it news," she rapped. "No more emo quotes and fake feuding with Demi, I'm done with all that and the truth is I'm too busy."
In the rap, Cyrus said "the reason is simple, I started Tweeting 'bout pimples" and "who really cares" if she's "playing with Noah" or "doing her hair."
Cyrus also admits she liked reading other star's posts, including Britney Spears and Katy Perry, but adds "I'm peacing-out and I'm leaving with this, ha goodbye."
When Cyrus deleted her Twitter account, her fans and her father rallied to get her to return. Billy Ray Cyrus' recent Tweet saying Miley "can't leave everyone now" and "we r countin on u" was said to be about her decision to stop Tweeting.
In an interesting twist of timing, infamous Tweeter Courtney Love, and her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, also reportedly stopped their constant Tweeting. According to PopEater, Love's Twitter may have been shut down amid libel claims that stemmed from a series of inflammatory Tweets aimed at fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir.
PopEater also reported that Lily Allen shut down her Twitter site over the weekend. E! News speculated that the shuttering of Allen's account came roughly the same time her relationship with layman builder Sam Cooper kicked into overdrive.
Stopping the Tweets isn't just for the girls, however. In July, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor stopped his updates saying "I believe I've done all I care to do here at this point," according to an E! Online report. "Flesh and reality and silence are calling."
